June 10, 2014

Two years ago I would have never guessed I would be living in Maryland.  I don't know if I could have even found it on the map.  Having lived most of my life on the west coast the east was a mystery to me.  All I knew about this side of the United States was what I read.   But here we are, having followed my daughter, son-in-law, and grand kids 3,000 miles from home.  We have made new friends, (everyone is very friendly here), are enjoying the time we spend with the family, and I have found a wonderful church.  Plus of course the fact that we are only an hour drive from our nations capital, and an hour from the state capital. There is so much history here, the first colony in Maryland is six miles from our home, the war of 1812 was fought here and of course the Civil war. We have visited Washington DC several times, Annapolis, Lancaster, Pa. and the birthplace of George Washington which is only about and hour and a half from here.

We are nearly surrounded by water.  To the west we have the Potomac River, to the east we have the Patuxent River, to the south is the Chesapeake Bay, and to the north is Washington DC.  Whenever I start to be homesick for the Pacific Ocean I just head out and I will soon come to a body of water.  Of course I miss California, the whole family was born there and hubby and I lived there for over fifty years, but we are never too old for an adventure so here we are.  These pictures are from our first month in southern Maryland.

We have many piers.

I enjoy wandering the back roads and taking pictures of the hidden beauty I find and especially love the barns.  I hope you like the ones I have found so far.

I found these barns in Virginia
